Home Secretary Suella Braverman considers upgrading cannabis to class A amid concerns over evidence linking it to psychosis, cancer and birth defects Quoting: Cannabis Kills People!.... The Home Secretary is considering making cannabis a Class A drug over concerns that it is a 'gateway' to other harder drugs and causes medical conditions including cancer and psychosis. Ms Braverman is said to be ideologically opposed to the decriminalisation of cannabis, telling close allies she believes it sends a 'cultural' signal that use of the drug is acceptable behaviour, The Times reports. She is also said to be concerned at the evidence linking the drug to serious mental and physical health issues, including psychosis, cancer and birth defects. Cannabis is currently a Class B drug, and upgrading it would have substantial impacts on police forces and sentencing guidelines. The maximum sentence for possession would rise from five to seven years imprisonment, while the maximum sentence for supplying the drug would rise from 14 years to life imprisonment. [link to www.dailymail.co.uk (secure)] same catagory as crack and Heroin... First, gateway drug theory is nonsense. If that were true, people who abuse prescription medications should also use hard drugs. (But most don't.) Secondly, If any of the bolded were true, a majority of the US wouldn't exist right now. Since, y'know, 60's and 70's. That aside, @CKP, why do you take the anti-cannabis stance? I don't think I've ever read your exposition on why you take your beliefs seriously enough to post about it on GLP. |

Psychosis yes. Everything else no. Potheads have the same psychological tendencies as takers of any chemical that makes people feel content when they have no moral reason to. It produces the same sociopathy as alcohol, meth, and psychotropic prescription drugs. There needs to be a deterrent, but it does not warrant life in prison anymore than alcohol does. It has simply approached replacement of tobacco as the opiate of choice for the masses. The only ultimate and effective solution to all the drug problems is to cultivate a society that does not require chemical intoxication in order to tolerate living in it. |

This implies that all alcohol users, or drug users seek to obtain the 'maximum' level of drunk or stoned. A single beer does not induce psychosis A single joint does not induce psychosis Abuse of any of the above (without moderation) will lead to psychosis however. In aspect to your "deterrent", be mindful that you cannot regulate morality-- that is authoritarian. Reference: prohibition |
