Every MSR filter and purifier features: An integrity check that allows the user to easily confirm that, if the device is dropped or frozen, the fibers haven’t been damaged and the device is working safely—a feature most competitors don’t provide. An end-of-life indicator—the filter media stops passing water. This clearly identifies that it’s time to replace the cartridge without exposing the user to harmful pathogens. Passes NSF Protocol P231 throughout the filter’s life. The test confirms microbiological threat removal from a variety of water types, unlike NSF 42 and 53, which aren’t suitable tests for backcountry use. |

Think about it. think about all the aspects you thought were real, were true were good etc.. and then later you found out were some kind of scams, grifts, con etc... it really is a fascinating question to try and answer despite it being unpleasant at times. if the question scares you well.. it is getting close to Halloweeen.. maybe it's time to face that fear. |

Talk about good water Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83916043 It may taste OK but it will have farm chemicals in it.. Nope ph balanced through Pete moss/ rock filter on private property - no farm run off. I have been doing salt water tanks for years and this is way better than the RO/ UV filter system I used to use |

I distill but have the filters to make a homemade Berkey type filter. Now I'm reconsidering buying a Alexpure. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 84312765 research the alexapure before you jump into another scam. there are youtubers that sent samples of all of these off to labs for testing. i am not saying anything about alexapure other than i know nothing about how it tested. i wouldn't just jump into something else without more research - especially now. You will want to look for actual NSF ratings, not "exceeds NSF standards". You want an actual accreditation for the testing facility. |

Not much gets through that setup. For portable filtration / disinfection. The gold standard has always been Katadyn filters. Either the pump type or the gravity drain type which is my preference. Hard to beat the simplicity of filling a bag with water and hanging up for a while to refill a container. I have the old unit called "katadyn base camp" I see the similar product now is called "Be-free". [link to www.amazon.com (secure)] katadyn base camp water filter [link to www.military1st.com (secure)] Other vendors may offer similar stuff for less. As long as they provide lab tests to certify it, and it has at least 0.2 micron filtration. If you want added safety, adding iodine to the water is a needed nutrient anyway and will disinfect the water if you dose it correctly and leave it sit for 20 minutes to kill any microbes. This is all assuming you have water from a questionable stream or pond source, but that there is not oil or kerosene or pesticides in the water. The sub micron filtration is to remove the normal pathogens found in water. Berkey was a known rip-off for years on another website I used to frequent. They never provided lab data. Just lots of advertising to lure the buyers that did not do their homework. Like most things, it is cheaper to hire shills than to actually be good. There is also a cheap ceramic filter that still gives the 0.2 micron filtration, but you need to supply your own set of 5 gallong buckets. It was marketed very cheaply to help people in Africa filter out the Onch worms that gave them river blindness. They used to sell for under $15. You need to check or test such filters to make sure they are not cracked. A still tends to not have the multiple theoretical stages needed for a decent separation, and they consume a lot of power. You would need to look into the details. I don't have one, but I have spent a career designing and operation distillation plants. What you buy commerically as a water still is likely just a flash evaporator/condenser. It might remove stuff, it might not. the energy consumption would make it a non-contender for a grid down situation. Last Edited by JustmeTX on 10/11/2022 05:18 PM Justme |

Water from my faucet smells like a swimming pool, and water from my Berkey has zero chlorine odor/taste. Thanks for posting this OP. As an owner of 2 Berkey purifiers for 10yrs I would really like to see test results from multiple labs. |
