There was that brief period where the iron curtain fell and there was hope that we might not all die in a nuclear conflagration. I miss that. Oh, and concerts where bands actually sang and played live.

I hear you. All went to shit starting in the 90's. That's when crap became popular. How can anyone even stand crap so called music. It's not even music.

the 80s was great, but also some dark times at least for me. I was 7 in 1985. A good friend of mine in neighbor hood, this was in terrytown a suburb of new orleans. Was kidnapped, she was 8. Raped, beat to death and beheaded in the swamp. A book was written on it...i still think about it sometimes all these later.

but things today are just SHIT

New Orleans has been a crime ridden shithole for a long time.

IMHO, a combination of record execs "creating" an artist (mostly based on looks or sexuality, not talent), auto-tuning, and rap being pushed on the youth. You hardly see artists now who can sing AND play an instrument, outside of country music. It seems like its all rap, sampled or auto-tuned. No creativity or artistry.

When my daughter was in high school (mostly white conservative school) back in the late 2000's, all of her friends were into rap. She loved classic rock because we introduced her to it. She told me they played mostly rap at the school dances, and really no slow dance songs. Very sad.
