Military plane crashes into block of flats in western Russia - two dead


According to the Russian Defense Ministry, an engine caught fire as the Su-34 aircraft took off. The plane exploded violently on impact in the residential area. Several floors of the nine-story building were engulfed in flames.

A Russian Sukhoi Su-34 fighter jet crashed over a residential area in the Russian city of Yeisk on Monday evening. According to preliminary information from the regional civil defense, at least two people were killed. 15 people were injured and taken to the hospital.

Pictures and videos on social media show how the crash into a block of flats creates a huge fireball and the building is then on fire. Yeisk is located in the north of Krasnodar Territory on the Russian side of the Azov Sea.

Undoubtedly more than two dead after you saw the pictures.

Because of the close vicinity to the Ukrain border, this deserves a pin. There might be other parties involved.

I didn’t see any ejection, looks like the plane exploded before it hit the buildings. Either shot down or one of its bombs/missiles maybe went off while still on board?

I can only assume the building collapsed into its own footprint about an hour later.

Ukrainian with a box cutter hijacked the plane to use it as a weapon. His uncharred passport was found in the wreckage. Building will soon collapse at free fall rate into its own footprint. This represents a failure of imagination by the Russians.

It looks like it did. It's hard to tell if it struck the top of a building first (initial explosion). If that was a building in the skyline, there was no smoke or flames.
