If there could be an honest system, maybe here are a couple of examples....

Devalue the dollar by 90%.
Remove the last zero, 10 dollar bill is a dollar,
100 dollar bill is 10 bucks. Then, back the devalued currency with gold/silver.

Or, each state, or region has their own bank.
Individuals have the opportunity to trade their gold or silver for new notes, every bank branch would have to be equipped to deal in gold and silver.

A lot of details to work out, but better than a total collapse or a CBDC.
