When the event happens, you will pretend to not notice
When your worst nightmare comes true or you find out the truth, you will be in a state of shock and denial. You will erase everything and turn a blind eye. You can't handle this and it's easier for you to lie to your self. This took me 20 years to come to terms with and I'm still in a state of shock and fear.
