The branch is 5 inches in diameter. Do you know what diameter is? The branch is 15 feet long and 15-20 feet in the air. I feel like $1,200 is a lot for one hour of work. I will do it myself. Be safe and spend what you need to ensure it. This does sound like a job you can complete. To make it easier, you might consider renting a lift for a day. It is estimated that there are more stars than grains of sand on earth; but more atoms exist in a single grain of sand than there are stars... gravity is a harsh reality. |

I was lucky as hell, they almost destroyed my neighbors car. Cutting trees is really a job for someone experienced. Anonymous Coward User ID: 75835310 Canada 11/22/2022 05:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have a tree in my backyard over the driveway that I want removed to avoid any hazard. It's 15 feet long and five inches diameter. The branch is roughly 20 feet off the ground. Quoting: Tonight We Ride! I requested a tree company quote taking the limb down, which is a job that will take roughly one hour for one person. The quote was $1,200. I was literally stunned. Tree company must have been a bunch of newfies making woodstove....... |

Quoting: 4strikes It’s over something they should have learned how to do/make themselves. Inflation isn’t out of control, dependence on first-world civilization is however. Yes, I'll do it myself. Anonymous Coward User ID: 81662978 United States 11/22/2022 06:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Tree climber here. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 84756603 $1200 is not out of the ballpark. I charge $300 just to show up with my climbing gear. Do you have any idea how much just a climbing rope costs? Or a chipper? How about liability insurance and worker's comp? Here in California tree contractors must carry worker's comp now even if they work solo. I just bid a one branch removal over a driveway and house. It will probably take just me about 5 hours and I bid $500. It was for a friend so I cut them a deal. Anyone else it would be close to $800. $1200 is pretty cheap when you consider the skill, risk and equipment involved. You would've already done it yourself if it were so easy. Just how much would you expect to pay if that tree or branch went the wrong way? Trees are pretty heavy and do not negotiate. I can't fault a skilled professional. My trades aren't cheap either. but... if the tree isn't too tall, any shmo can rent an extension ladder and take off a limb. My trades are either you know how to do it, or you don't. There is no half-assing it. cutting most limbs can be done by anyone skilled enough to use a ladder and a saw. |

NOT a good idea. uneven ground. soft ground. not knowing how to operate the controls. if a person can't operate an extension ladder safely, then they do NEED to hire someone that can. also, the cut limb can take you off your ladder or knock the ladder out from under you. hahahah. i speak from experience! Had do jump off my 8' ladder as the limb came down in a way that I had not predicted. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 79617970 United States 11/23/2022 10:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live in a community where people are afraid of chain saws and rattlesnakes. I had a red oak die next to my driveway. So, I spent an afternoon taking it down. I watched as a woman (dressed in her tennis outfit) walked down the sidewalk. I waited to do the final felling until she passed - for her safety. She was unaware of my activity, as she was checking out her Facebook page (on her phone) as she walked. When she finally saw the tree sans all it's limbs on the ground, she exclaimed, "Oh my! What happened?" I said calmly, "I just needed some firewood, mam." |
