The uncrewed spacecraft cruises at 1,000 mph and is 215,000 miles from Earth. It's about 95,000 miles from the Moon and will make a very close powered flyby burn on Monday. Quoting: PURA SANGRE "Orion's entry into the lunar sphere of influence will make the Moon, instead of Earth, the main gravitational force acting on the spacecraft," the space agency wrote in a press release. [link to www.zerohedge.com (secure)] https://twitter.com/_/status/1594112084769284097 Er ... The Moon is 240,000 miles from Earth (on average) 215,000 + 95,000 is 310,000 miles. I guess they are taking the long way. And help me out here but it has travelled at 1000 MPH and is 215,000 miles from Earth. Using simple math we see that 215,000 / 1000 = 215 hours ... HOWEVER 215 / 24 equals = 8.958333 days but it is only THREE DAYS INTO IT'S LUNAR MISSION. Could a mathematician help me out here. In the old days it took about 3 to 4 days to get to the moon. I wonder what has happened in the last 49 years. . [link to spaceplace.nasa.gov (secure)] . [link to coolcosmos.ipac.caltech.edu (secure)] . Sorry my bad ! "Shortly after that milestone was the trans-lunar injection burn, when the ICPS boosts Orion's speed from 17,500 miles per hour (28,163 kilometers per hour) to 22,600 miles per hour (36,371 kilometers per hour) to escape the pull of Earth's gravity and set off for the moon ... " . It still doesn't make sense ... If it was going 22,600 per hour it would get there in 310000 / 22600 = 13.71 hours. I think I need a drink. . The craft loops around Earth at high speed, then as it opens up the orbit to head to the Moon, speed is traded off for its escape from Earth's gravity. It's a little more complicated than driving to the corner store. And yes people, the Earth is a sphere. Last Edited by JustmeTX on 11/20/2022 02:11 AM Justme |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80456663 Why aren't there any stars in space? Do they magically disappear once you leave the earth's atmosphere? It's fucking bullshit. The reason why they don't put stars is because it would be too hard to do it well. It would look even faker if they tried to include stars, so they just said "fuck it, no stars. People are fucking stupid anyway, who cares" BUMP He's right ya know |

Where exactly is the FUEL TANK that give the module enough energy to put it into orbit? Yes of course moons gravity is only 1/6 that of but the Saturn 5 is like 300 feet tall so you are talking maybe only 50 feet tall And maybe there are more efficiencies with smaller size so let's say you only need 10% of that so that still means a 5 foot tall tank filled with fuel And it cannot be a combustion based fuel since no oxygen on moon And where the hell is the dust cloud when the explosion occurs? |
