I think one of the problems Nasa has is that technology has progressed to a point where people expect livestreams, but they are not able to provide realistic stuff so they are kind of caught between a rock and a hard place.

I think they are going with the "make it look as fake as possible so it has to be real" strategy. Either that or they are just targeting the gullible as their audience and don't care about anyone else.

There were problems of how much life support they would have on board and that meant they needed to do the mission in the shortest time possible. Money was literally no object.

The Saturn V booster was made huge to send the men to a direct orbit insertion around the moon. This was about the shortest and fastest way possible. BUT the booster was extremely expensive. If you can extent the life support like they can now, it is possible to use a MUCH smaller booster and save a grunch of money. Slower, yes, More orbital dynamics to deal with, yes, but much cheaper. Cheaper means you can make more shots for the same cost.
