Believe it or not I was there when this happened on Sunday. It was also the revolution day celebration. She was drunk. Our guide said it happens nearly every day now. We walked to the ball court as to not give her the attention she sought.

The only reason why it is no longer allowed to ascend the steps is because our culture has become insanely litigious and looks for every opportunity to cash-in on our own mistakes by blaming others. These pyramids should be an engaging participatory experience, not a no-touch museum. These ruins survived thousands of years of natural erosion and they can endure the trivial effects of human footsteps on their stairs. The solution seems simple - have all tourists sign a waiver, surrendering their right to sue in the event that their own carelessness gets them hurt or killed. As a society, we are going insane with the obsession over perfect "safety". A society that surrenders freedom for safety will obtain neither. Life itself is a hazard and there's no way around that. Hell, even oxygen is slightly toxic, and an obscene number of people die from slipping in their bathtub. If we continue to try and "bulletproof" our lives, those lives won't even be worth living.

That's weird. I climbed that exact same one when I was down there (they used to have a rope to hold onto because the steps are narrow and steep). Everybody climbed it. Kids were running around the top, even in the slick rain. They had an ambulance parked at the bottom because they'd have somebody tumble down or get injured regularly.

I also puked on another one that was deeper in the jungle (bad water). Luckily nobody saw that except my boyfriend.
