But due to declining gas deliveries from Vladimir Putin, as well as declining nuclear output in France on issues with hydroelectric generation in Norway, National Grid warned there was a chance scant supplies could spark outages in the coldest winter months. Under a trial run, the grid had planned to pay some homes to reduce consumption for an hour from 5.30pm today under its new Demand Flexibility Scheme. If the power does go out tonight, many people may not only be sitting in darkness. They may also be quite cold as temperatures start to dip considerably in the evenings. This also comes after wind power generation fell as low as 3,958 megawatts at noon today, which is less than half of the 10,000 megawatts that was generated in Britain a day earlier. Although National Grid said it was confident that power margins should get Britons through the evening tonight, it was still tight enough to warrant the 7pm warning. |
