A different time - way before most were alive - worth the effort to view the movie - likely we will see this again as the US forces Europe into a WAR with Russia that WILL spill over to the US. Already (not much reported) large Anti-War protest in Europe - they will only get larger as the snow flies.

Many kids got drafted right out of high school and never came home. There was a legitimate anti draft movement and like all legitimate causes, it got usurped by intellectuals and people with a larger agenda. Kids today probably can't imagine how it felt to get that letter in the mail and know that you could die in a war that you didn't even understand, and have the choice of reporting in or dodging the draft, which had serious consequences like not being able to live or visit the US without being at risk of arrest and court martial. Pretty hard core for someone in their late teens and early 20s to deal with.

Its easy to blame and judge, but anyone born after the late 50s is lucky they have never been in that position. Since Vietnam, you had the choice to serve or not.

Alices Restaurant is a classic.

a whole lot of us rebelled that war... I did.. and my ex Husband enlisted for 4 years and served his country well STATESIDE MILITARY HOSPITALS..
