Making a Warm Winter Bed.in an Unheated Bedroom.

The USA is not immune in this war and tomorrow you could be without gas and electricity for 2 or 3 months in the middle of winter. Right now you can buy reasonable quality bedding, etc quite cheaply. And hopefully the various ideas will get you thinking.

PS: Get a 6 pack of fingerless gloves, you'll thank me later.

:cowgal: Yes newspaper works well. I remember a few times when I went camping and it got colder than I expected. Wrap it around your legs, arms, body, and feet. Hold it in place with your clothing, socks, string, etc.

Plain cotton, synthetic? Heavy or light?

What is the current situation in the UK now? Did they shut off the heat or the power? Or is it just getting expensive?

I’ve collected old wool blankets and mens wool jumpers from the thrift store for the family, along with old thermal lined curtains should we need them for draping at room entrances, over a bed etc. Too small sized Woolf jumpers can be cut and made into wrist warmers etc. I figure for not much money I could stash away items should we need them and I’ve already begun wearing the wool jumpers and wrist warmers

Climashied Apex is my favorite synthetic insulation due to its durability. Primaloft Gold is slightly warmer, but is said to be less durable as far as loss of loft from repeated compression in a backpack.

I have the 20F degree Climashield Apex(8oz/yd) Enlightened Equipment quilt you linked and it is great. I also have a Kifaru "Woobie"(Blanket) with 3.6oz/yd Climashield Apex insulation. Both are worth every penny, but both are also special order items that take weeks or months to arrive depending on demand.

The Kifaru Woobie weighs 2lbs and is as warm as my 6lb Hudson Bay wool blankets.

Seems a quilt would be better instead of trapped in a bag with no zip.

All primaloft though 200gsm bag. 100gsm jacket. 60gsm pants.

and a 200 gram down quilt.

This can be a jacket booster. Bag filler. Or summer quilt.

It were fine in winter. Just thinking if it can be an all season shtf setup.

So a zip would have been better.

:9teen: A lot of cold comes up through the mattress and it can take quite some time for trapped heat to warm it up a bit.
I just tried a brand new winter-rated sleeping bag today, With the zipper on the right side because that's the side I use. I left the lower 24 inches or so closed to help keep my feet warm.
I knew this was a good purchase the minute I got in it. For ease of use I did not cover my upper half above my armpits, my regular bedding does that pretty well. The set up is such that it's easy enough to get in and out of while half asleep to answer calls of nature.

We all need to get set up for the day the power goes out. So please post your best tips.
