Quoting: Deplorable Zenobia Just seeing local news story about a Durham couple who took a rogue wave hit while on Viking cruise. The short video clip the news story features is from yrs ago just to give some context since the couple didn't have live footage. Crazy fucker manning the camera! Apparently it's just a thing for him and crew. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77458692 Damn straight. Spent a few years sailing from Cordova-kodiak-Adam-nome and back. Can confirm you learn to sleep with one foot planted on your bunk post. OK, that would totally suck if that's how you gotta' get any shut eye in those seas. I have no sea legs whatsoever. Cruises don't bother me but it's based upon the size of the vessel going thru' whatever level of bad weather that determines whether I stand, sit or just lie down w/ waste basket by the bed. You learn to live with it. Best part is when you shore and try to take a shower and close your eyes and almost fall over. You can still feel the perpetual motion of the oceans might. A healthy respect I gained for the ocean, and an everlasting love for the Alaskan way of life. I miss it immensely, but I’m being a good dad and seeing my kids through school, then it’s back up to the desolate tundra. “When you’re dead you’re dead, but you’re not quite so dead if you contribute something” -John Dunsworth |

Quoting: Deplorable Zenobia Am still trying to wrap my brian around how I'd react to being on a ship gettin' smacked by big-ass wave. And a rogue wave is not exclusive to being in a bad squall either. Those suckers just pop up with no warning. Ships are built for that. Some people love stuff like that. |

And to think that was just the first part of those folks thinking they were in for a great relaxing cruise. Bet there were at least a couple of people right after that they said, 'Nope. Don't care how I get back to shore, stop this boat now!' ** Ah well 'mates, go to link, to see. Thrilling. Then again, potentially lethal. I had a similar dream where this happened except it ended in death. The ocean is a serious force of Nature! No joke! Dude is just LOL, colleague chuckling in background. Must be part of their norm in that part of the seas. I've been on a big cruise ship in a squall. Hated that shit since I was so hung over and had a hard time adjusting to the ship's tilt while having coffee. This is an experience I've yet to have. I've been on a few ferries in the PNW, never "out to sea". I’ve never wanted to go on a cruise anyway. Most people I know who’ve been on cruises usually end up with some kinda virus . After watching that vid ….hell no will I ever go on cruise! #DefundTheBBC |

I gave up telling them to move to the rear of the boat and watch the horizon, most amusing but fuck the boat was a mess when we docked |
