Coyotes, jackals, wolves, there is nothing the pyranees will not attack if the flock is in danger.

Some dogs will hesitate and cower. The pyranees won't.

And that's why they earn the title of the sheep dogs to rule all sheep dogs.

Great Pyrenees are awesome dogs. My daughter had 2 when the kids were little. Protective and fearless family dogs.

Well he will be retired now. And certainly deserves it. Awesome dog but would have died without medical attention. Had to have his tail amputated and some surgeries. But he did what he was bred to do. Protect the sheep.

Makes me happy that I have a 130 pound great pyre. Awesome fucking dogs. Although they like to do what they like to do lol.

Unless she takes them for extended walks and has a place for them to run yea that isn't good. They need a proper yard. I don't have sheep but I have chickens that keep my girl occupied lol.

If you live in an urban environment or an apartment you should not have most breeds of dogs except for a few toy breeds.

Sister has one. Sweetest dog. 110lbs but he thinks he’s a lap dog lol

My neighbor has 2 Great Pyrenees.
Those dogs are awesome.
He runs alpacas and mini ponies.
Those dogs WILL kill ANYTHING not human who enters my neighbors pasture.

They got out one day and came to my house. They played very well with my dogs until he came to get them.

The next day while on a walk I told my husband even tho they were playing with our dogs yesterday, should one of my dogs manage to get into my neighbors pasture, his 2 pyres would kill them right away.
I have no doubt they would do their job.

They are great dogs!!!!!

Is there a law against shooting the coyote, when they come to your house?
To protect your sheep and your dog.
Would be more humane for the coyotes, too, dieing fast, and it would likely make the rest of the pack run away.

so if he killed that many i would assume he went for the pack leader, the alpha wolf.
once the leader is dead, the rest are easier to take out.

I used to own a great pyrenees male. I am female. Smart dog. Dedicated. Could be stubborn. I got him as a pup from people I bought beef from. His daddy was an awesome dog.

His name was Hoss. Hoss would check out any male visitor. One time, hoss checked out a guy that was giving me an estimate for house repairs. Hoss sat down between the 2 of us humans. Hoss was huge. We moved and Hoss moved between us again.

I quickly got the hint and did not hire the guy. I was part of the pack of Hoss.

RIP buddy.

They also protect goats that clear invasive plants. I was impressed with the gentle relaxed nature of the dogs as they seemed to just sleep on the perimeter of the herd. We had a temporary fence to keep the goats concentrated on the target area. You could walk right up to the fence and talk to the dogs without them showing any concern. When my arm would break the plane of the fence line while I was pointing and talking, the Pyrenees would let out a low rumble warning without ever getting up. There is no question that the growl was for my benefit so I didn't step over the fence by mistake.
