My mother received two Christmas cards today, she still gets 20+ a year... She has been dead for 10 years

Your mom is still a popular girl.

People used to send them to my parents and I’d hang them on the wall as a little girl. I never get them. People don’t do them anymore as far as people I know.

Any gift cards or money in them ???

a generation ago everyone sent everyone Christmas cards. it was normal. cheap and there was no email, no instant messaging.

You might send one to your cousin Albert that you haven't seen in 10 years because generally people didn't change their address either.

you've probably seen skits and comedys about the "Christmas card list” after January if you didn't get one from a family member or friend on the list you "cross them out" for year. lol

Different era, sending cards was a big thing 3, 4, 5 etc. decades ago. If you considered someone a close friend even though you met them only a few times, but it was a very special memory the card in a way was a reminder of that time you shared on holiday, or reunion, or whatever it was. People were more romantic back then, and better.

That’s because of the person she was, not many like your mother these days. That must of been one hellava woman. Should make you smile every time you receive one. Thank those who still choose to remember her also.

During the 60's & 70's my mom would send out 400 cards and get back that many! She had her list and if she didn't hear back from someone she put a zero next to the name and sent out one more time. If nothing, it was removed from the list.
By the time she passed in 2007, she was only getting about 20-30 cards. I had to send cards to those who hadn't heard that she had passed.
I only get a hand full of cards a year now.

It speaks a lot about your mother, she must’ve been a wonderful person. Sorry for your loss.

My mother was just telling me how she was feeling about Christmas cards, that she will never stop writing them, but it's sad because most of her friends and family have passed on and she doesn't receive very many any more. She doesn't do email, and I've asked my friends to send her a Christmas card this year. She loves to get real mail. It's a kind thing you can do at Christmas, to send a card to our beloved older generation.

people should still do it, it's better than a virtual card by far and it's fun to send them, too! get creative with it!

i have a suitcase of my great grandmothers from the 1960s all intact since that time. its full of christmas letters. they were full of christ and the real christmas spirit back then. i keep it in my attic sometimes when i go up there i open it and read some of the letters, they are full of kind words and all about jesus. just thought id share

I think Christmas, birthday, and any celebratory card is stupid and a waste of money. This is not the turn of the twentieth century. We have technology. If you are not going to include a gift... just call. Other than that, save cards for saying, thank you. Because you don't want to be exhausted by each and every phone call for a gift. And, you definitely do not need the false trash of people ( like your dental office or a relator) who want to "appear" they care. That sh*t annoys me the most. I am that that lonely!

Well, she didn’t actually receive them if she’s dead.

Them democrats stick together. My dad, got rest his soul, just started voting democrat. Having proudly served in the Army during WW2 and Navy in Korean War, he must be rolling in his grave right now.

I guess she's just on their list. I still send out a few cards, especially to people far away that I don't see.
