My mother received two Christmas cards today, she still gets 20+ a year... She has been dead for 10 years

I get some from Friends and family even though I don’t send any myself. I’m single. I feel like it’s weird to send them out myself as a single person but maybe I should? I don’t need to include a picture of my ‘lonely’ self but could just send a generic card. It’s a way to keep your friends close. People who have actual friends who care about them and people who care about their friends may be the ones most likely to survive a catastrophe like maybe an economic implosion….

That function has been replaced by the Internet. That time and energy previously devoted to networking is now taken up by the carousel. Still networking of sorts I suppose.

I got a card once (wasn't even sent to my name), that had a family picture, and this big letter one year from some family from God knows where. I hung their picture on my fridge for the next year.

Friends would ask who they were and I'd respond "I have no freakin' idea."
