Extremely cold air from Siberia will send US into deep freeze days before Christmas

Well, the last 5 day cold snap in Texas wiped out our natural gas supply system, shutting down gas turbines and plunging people into the dark for 5 days straight. The houses are not built to survive that and most houses around me had broken water pipes all through their houses. For 6 months there were repair crews and dumpsters everywhere. Houses had to be gutted and rebuilt. Probably around $200K damage to most of them.

I didn't have any damage, but I used to live up North. Still, another day of that cold stuff and my house might have been damaged as well.

Have a friend that saw Alaskans with only shirts on in a convertible with the top down in freezing weather.

Now Texans are accustomed to high temperatures but to adapt to simply low teens, especially after global warming has been taught, has caught many off guard; adapting to colder temperatures takes time.

I raise a small herd of beef/dairy cattle, extended family actively ranches hundreds of head, mine will have shelter under the pines & extra feed because fermenting in the gut is what keeps them warm.

But...I hate to break it to you Yellowstone is a fucking TV show not reality & ranchers are likely praying their cattle freeze to death.

They have insurance on their stock & will make more of a profit from dead beef than taking them to a saturated market that's on average a year behind on processing.

Meaning, they're not getting paid much for their beef & feed costs have quadrupled so it's a fire sale before they starve i.e why processing is backed up.

Guarantee a HUGE amount of cattle will die on purpose so they can get paid from claims.

This will wipe out beef for you city folks by next fall because the heifers that are pregnant pay double on claims, no new beef born for you this spring on top of the great culling that started last winter.

Better start raising rabbits/quail, rural areas won't be sharing our beef.

An epic blizzard will hit the Ohio Valley late in the week.

Far north Idaho on Tuesday the low is -15 and the high is -2. It's better than the predictions I saw for it a few days ago, low of -26. Our usual high daily temp in the winter is 28.

That would only make it colder.

Can't wait. Better have an alternate heat source, or a way to power the existing.

There were a few more things I wanted to accomplish before the winter hit,to get prepared, but work slowed way down. I'm just hoping the electric stays on.

Crime should go down with people inside trying not to freeze.

It’s been really Cold here in Northern New Mexico.
1000/gal Livestock water tanks have been freezing
4 to six inches in a couple of days.
Nights into the negatives.
Days barely to Freezing.
I’ve got plenty of Firewood.
And know how to use it.
Cold is not an issue for me.
The outside animals do Suffer.
