Wood splits better when it’s frozen. Just be sure warm up your axe or maul before you head out, and keep it warm, else it might chip.

I also live at the southern tip of TX. So many plants and animals died in that last cold spell we had, it was truly sad.

In 1976 in NM we had a horrible cold snap. -45F and I have no idea what it was with wind chill. There were birds actually falling to the ground frozen.

There have always been cold snaps. They just come around every few decades and not all the time.

Something is screwed up. I saw robins the other day. We are just starting winter here. Robins always come in spring! Something screwed up somewhere.
