Almost every photographer uses some sort of editing software. I have a speck on the inside of my lense that I shop out of my photo. Also do color grading. Those are just dead trees he found that look cool.

Just for him to take a pic in same spot every month for a year shows how dedicated to his work he is. I doubt very much that this is his only project like this. He probably does this same style in many locations. Dedication and patience is what this guy has more of than 90% of the population.
