I keep waking up at 3:40 am.

I take mild to moderate opiates for pain......melatonin isn't a viable option when the opiates overpower their function making them untenable, and still I wake up. So this while a great suggestion isn't practical for my situation, but thanks.

5-HTP Supplement and / or sleep in a tent outside for about a week to reset your circadian rhythm. Worked for me. YMMV.

I am now at an age where I sleep when I want. If I can't get back to sleep in the middle of the night I smoke a joint, do the dishes, and listen to pod casts.

Once I get the fire restarted, tend the chickens and feed the dog, then during the early afternoon I take a nap.
