Lavrov told Blinken in May that Russian satellites can’t tell if an American ot Brit is driving a Western tank, or a Ukrainian, and would have to react appropriately.

Sending Challengers, Leopards, or Abrahms to Ukraine would be a disaster. They are very heavy, and VERY thirsty for fuel. The empty weight of a Leopard is 62 tons.

The Soviets were extremely paranoid, and feared an attack from the west.
In the 70’s they rebuilt or replaced the small bridges in most of Ukraine, and designed them to fail and collapse under a 50 ton weight.

The lighter Soviet tanks could pass over them, but the heavier Western tanks would collapse them.

As we know, despite allocating billions of western donated dollars to infrastructure since the fall of the Soviet, almost all of that money disappeared into someone’s pockets, and very little Soviet infrastructure got replaced.

The same applies to Poland.

Chatter on Tele in the last couple of days saying that Western Intelligence agencies only just in the last few days have realized that Russia is building up a HUGE stockpile of suicide drones and missiles.

Urals weapons plants that closed 30 years ago are now up and running 3 shifts of production, and have been at that rate for a couple of months now.

The Tehran Express is running to Moscow almost daily now, bringing in cheap drones and missiles, while at least 3-4 new Russian facilities are mass producing the dirt-cheap Shaheds/Doritos.

China is providing all kinds of new electronics to the Russians, and aircraft production has at LEAST doubled in recent months.

Roosevelt and DC wanted very much to get into the war, but public opinion was dead set against it.

The US gearing up for war started in 1937, and accelerated in late 1938.
He began pressuring Japan over China with embargoes, until the oil embargo set them off. He never imagined the Japanese would take the Philippines, and that blew up the US War Plan. It had to be rethought.

While this was going on, starting in mid-1940, we began prodding the Germans, because Roosevelt really wanted help Churchill. Beyond Lend-Lease, there was the phony war at sea in Spring and Summer 1941.

Look up the Reuben James incident, as just one example. 100 US Navy sailors died.

But even with Pearl Harbor, there was no sentiment to go to war against Germany. But Adolf messed that up by declaring war on US, honoring the Tripartite Treaty.

Of course if they weren't there in the first place, withdrawing them would be a snap.
