"Jean Thurel, or Jean Theurel 6 September 1698 – 10 March 1807), was a fusilier of the French Army and a centenarian with an extraordinarily long career that spanned over 75 years of service in the Touraine Regiment. Born in the reign of Louis XIV and dying during that of Napoleon I, Thurel lived in three different centuries."

Fought in battle at age 89 and died at 108 years old.

Was born about 150 years before kerosene lanterns were invented.

There are a lot of people born during the 1600s that lived to be very old.

All this "humans are living longer than ever because modern medicine and easier working conditions and we need to raise the adulthood age from 18 to 25 blah blah blah" is a bunch of BS.

Average as compared to an outlier.

Back in the 1600's the average age at death was something like 45 or so. This didn't mean that everyone died at 45. It was due to the fact that most children didn't live until they were five.

If you got past five, the average age at death was much older than 45. Pushing upward into the sixties. About 5% of all people lived to be 90, even back then.

We have MORE older people now, mainly due to the fact that most people survive childhood.

We even have more people at extremely old ages, as we gain better ways to care for people medically.

Agree, OP. No Monsanto in their food, and they exercised more, had better soil for crops and weren't breathing bad air. Our modern time is so unhealthy in comparison.
