My husband, who was in next level down ICU, before he died told me many strange and weird things everyday when I would go to attend to him.

I am a solid believer in Jesus Christ's saving power and He is my personal Saviour. I have talked many times about my Bible beliefs to my husband in the past. He professed a belief in Jesus, but said he just could not wrap his heart around Bible stories about miracles, like Jonah.

After one or two nights at the hospital, when I came into the room, he exclaimed in a loud and powerful voice that "Everything you told me about the Bible is true!" He started asking nurses and aides if they believed the Bible in an extraordinary burst of strength and vitality, and voice volume. This man was being oxygenated for a lung ailment and was previously mumbling so low no one could understand him. These exclamations were loud and clear. Most of the nurses and aides I observed were answering in the affirmative.

He told me there were figures that came at night and were burning his insides. He claimed there were entities (he did not use that word) that were doing malevolent and wicked things to him. He said after these events, they went down into the garbage can. He adamantly asked an aide to remove the trash can from his room.

He asked me one morning how my dad was. I told him that he knew that my dad died in 1978 (he never met him but had seen pictures). My husband said he met my dad and his dad and my brother John. I don't have a brother as far as I know. He said they had to box and everything they had done was displayed to them and there was a judge telling them everything they had done wrong (in their life not in a boxing match). They had to show their testicles to prove they were men. He did not mention any women in these encounters. Except at night in his experiences, he said they brought little women in that were directed to sit on him. At that point I told him it would be better not to share that with other people.

Who knows what goes on in hospitals, as I have heard some horrendous true stories.

I was advising him to not tell the staff these things as I was trying to get him better to go home and they were constantly asking me about his mental status and how he was reporting these hallucinations happening at night but things were different with him during the day, as he was rational and answered questions correctly, etc. I told him he could tell me all about it when we were alone, but not to tell other people these things, except for telling them about the Bible being true, of course. I told him to pray for Jesus to help him if he was in pain or afraid.

He told me there was a dark man hanging about in the corner of the room behind him. I told him the blood of Christ will protect him from all bad and evil things.

He stated he never felt like he was being burned inside in the daytime, only at night so I ruled out machinery being the cause of this. He was on breathing machine both day and night for intervals. He seemed to be frightened at first. Then he evened out and again at the end he seemed more restless and depressed. He warned me not to do anything foolish if he should happen to die. I asked what would foolish be like. He said, "Like killing yourself." In the past he claimed he did not believe in things he did not see, but he was certain these visions were real to him.

I was reading a book on healing in the church about the first years after the resurrection of Christ and one of the items stated that evil spirits were the cause of disease. I read this paragraph to him and asked him, "You don't have an evil spirit inside of you making you sick, do you?" Instantaneously he answered, "NO!"

As an aside, we always had a little running joke about me being a little bit psychic and one afternoon I was just making conversation and said, "I read an article this morning about them doing a remake of "Roadhouse," one of his favorite movies. Immediately on the TV on AMC the movie "Roadhouse" started. We both looked at each other and laughed! Or if I had an intense itch in my left palm I would tell him and we always received some money in a day or two. Stuff like that.

He also at that time professed he never knew how much he loved me before. He was not convinced I loved him at all before that time (almost 20 years), but now he knew what love is because he was made to know it. He confessed some major things he thought he had done wrong in his life and asked me to forgive him. The man had never opened himself up to me about such personal things. He had been in Vietnam and had a hard time coming to grips with the aftermath of all that. I did likewise assure him I was sorry for bossing him around and being cranky. We had so many things like nebulizers, oxygen burlap machines, medicines and I always had to remind him to do them or take care of himself at certain times and it becomes a burden after so many years. Me coaching, "Take a deep breath through your nose and let it out slowly through your pursed lips!" Ten thousand times. Him thinking I am nagging him needlessly.

These events have had a profound impact on me. I have relayed this story many times to let people know - For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men. Titus 2:11

Are all these negative feelings of pain and panic and fear this "loosh" you are referring to? A lot of the nurses and aides said these negative things and delusions and reports of bad occurrences were always coming from the patients on that ward. They confirmed this was not an unusual occurrence. I have read there is something called ICU psychosis as a way to explain these things in a scientific way, but I find it hard to believe a psychosis could be snapped off and on at daybreak and nightfall.

He died four months ago. God rest his soul.
