Looking at the video, the aircraft was on a circling approach in a left turn, presumably below the appropriate speed, stalled with increasing angle of bank and increasing rate of descent.

Just why such an event occurred is likely to be revealed from the FDR & CVR. Maintenance records etc will also be examined.

Looks like the pilot let the airspeed get too low, then the left wing dropped in an unrecoverable stall - a totally avoidable accident on first inspection.

I remember one approach into St. Louis-Lambert on a cold grey misty day...

The jumpseat is in the very back, next to the boarding door.

Flight...half full.

As we entered the "commitment" of landing, I could feel the back end come down and the nose pitched up much further than normal...and as we did so, the engines revved higher and higher...no correction, no power...and the sound I knew we were at max. The pitch kept getting worse.

Luckily we were close enough he could plant it before it became "uncorrectable".

After the fact, it was stated by a passenger that the ice was like he never seen before...that was AFTER the manufacturer
"corrected" the bad decing boot design. Correction my ass.

WHY he got slow remains to be seen. Engine issue? Fuel starvation?

Maintain your energy even into the crash, it can save your life.

As Bob Hoover always said, (For you folks that don’t know who this is, look him up. An absolute aviation legend that even the astronauts looked up to.), your best chance of survival is to fly the plane all the way to the scene of the crash.

This is a much different and newer design than the one that crashed in Roselawn. I was personally involved in dealing with that one. There were a bunch of factors involved in that accident cascade, not just icing. That was just the final link in the chain.

Every student pilot is taught early on to not let the nose get high when slow. It is an instinctual thing that you have to learn not to do.

Start with a normal operation with an aircraft that is sluggish and underpowered in the first place and enter into a problematic situation...yes, of course, your going to have MORE problems.
