Lol, pretty much everything a ship needs to operate in the modern world has been shut down because this system is down (for what a day?) is what this guy says. I used to work on ships and boats for a very long time. Maybe it would cause congestion in the ports or something but they don’t need that shit to operate. This is not air travel. Do you know how long it takes a ship to travel those distances? They have PLENTY of time to make arrangements. Just as long as they eventually get it up and running it literally doesn’t matter at all. They don’t need that to operate. You think they just use this system to navigate, drive, etc. Ships are very independent of any outside influence MOST of the time because most the time they are sailing. These are not airplanes.

They communicate with the office and then it could take days, weeks, months to get where they are going. There are often delays and change of plans. So, this is I guess some logistics system? Most of them have PLENTY of time to work it out with whoever they need to. It’s like you are on your way halfway across the fucking world and the office is like shit did you know our logistics is down? Yeah I saw that we couldn’t get it up and running on here either. Okay well we will continue to the destination for another few fucking weeks and check back in with you. I guess when we are 50 miles out we will call our destination to get fuel, food, and water if the system is still broken in two weeks or a month. Big deal.

Oh ok so we are in port. Our online logistics system isn’t working. Most boats and ships either have no wifi or it is total shit anyway. So we just call like we will just call like we always end up doing and you can tell us where to go and what to take. If y’all can’t figure it out we will stand by in port a few days or whatever. They actually don’t need that system at all considering I’ve never even heard of it. Or maybe I have heard it mentioned. They don’t need that. Maybe it helps the shoreside office and the ship as a secondary tool to make things easier but they still are making calls and arrangements both the office and the ship. They don’t depend on that for logistics and certainly don’t use that to “operate” like navigate, plan routes, drive and shit what a joke.

Look it even says on the screen average speed like 16 knots or whatever and thousands and thousands of miles. Knots aren’t the same as miles but close enough to illustrate a point. Take that 16 knots and the miles and figure out how long it takes bro. They might have a day they are supposed to get there and that day often changes not hours or minutes like air travel or something.

Sometimes they will have an ETA and that ETA might be an exact date and time but especially on a long journey that ETA is going to change significantly probably by days even. You sail around a storm. Your fucking generator or engine breaks, a dude gets sick in board and you gotta stop somewhere, you run out of water or food or something breaks maybe you are consuming more fuel than you expected you gotta go meet up with bunker I don’t know… but anything and everything often gets fucked up so that ETA changes all the time usually.

Estimated Time of Arrival. That’s why it’s called estimated. Not right on time like trucks, trains, and airplanes. And that’s because it takes a long fucking time. They do often get there near when they are supposed to- that’s the goal but it doesn’t fucking matter at all really besides being late or having problems is losing money ok I’m done.
