Nothing wrong with using onions on a daily basis, they are really quite good for you! I should be eating more of them. I've been including green and red peppers in my diet. I've grown to really like them.

Sounds like Florida is the best place to be for the SHTF scenario, very good climate 12 months around. And raised beds are the only way to go, otherwise your work in being done in vain, cuz it'll all just wash away. Did you mention how much square footage in bedding you currently have?

Rabbits are a very good protein souce. They are quite and multiply like crazy.

I do "Raised Beds". They are great and you dont have to bend over very far to work the garden or harvest ;-)

This is really all very fascinating. I have for several years been considering going off grid, or John Galt, b/c things aren't stable anymore. This thread will serve as a good reference for my making any kind of further decision.

You have goats and rabbits, right? Any cattle or swine?

These were some greens I planted a few years ago in my Garden in Melborne, FL: Collard, Turnip, Mustard and kale.

When Harvesting, I would take just the lowest leaf from each plant and this was the greens would continue to grow, I actually ended up with Collard-Tree's, Kale-Trees ... lol

Horses
Pigs
Buffalo

On the River Property We will raise

Rabbits
Chickens
Goats
Fish - from the river

And whatever else Rewind wants.

Plus grow all of our vegetables and fruits and fruit trees.


Barter for Pork & Beef with locals in the area, they are everywhere here. I barter a lot.

That sounds really good. I often favor potatoes, although I do try to keep the starches to a minimum. Carbs and starches tend to cause water retention. At least with my physiology.
