Sounds like a wonderful life you have planned for each other! :0) I am following all your videos; I just bought a farm this year and am looking at setting a lot of this stuff up that you are talking about. It already has an existing chicken house with a stone foundation and roof and everything; larger than some people's houses lol; but we have to put in the run and stuff because the coyotes and hawks will definitely get them outside. 25 Chickens are coming at the end of Feb. The farm was an old farmstead with mostly everything as far as outbuildings/stuff like that but it's super expensive for machinery needed like tractors and such. Are you planning on using that kind of stuff or thinking of doing all of that by hand? lol We've got 36 acres with a spring fed pond and creek. House and barn were built like 1890's and then refurbished. Even have an old school pump that brings up springwater and an old smokehouse. So cool :0) Interesting about the mealworm farm! I have a regular worm farm for easy bait for fishing set up but this is a great idea for the chickens! “It's hard not to feel happy when you make someone smile.” Roy T. Bennett _______ ~INFJ~ |

Funny story: As a Young Man, growing up on the farm. We had a Burn-Barrel for trash out behind our barn. At 13, I started smoking Marlboro's (I quit 22 years ago), and every night I would volunteer to burn the trash as the trash smoke smell would disguise the cigarette smell. We had to stay with the fire until it burned out to make sure no embers started a fire somewhere else, so I could smoke a couple of cigarettes without having to hide from my Parents. (they never ever saw me smoke a single cigarette) in the 21 years I smoked ... lol * Also, I have never said a curse word in their presence ... lol and I am a Hard-Core Combat Veteran with Multiple Tours ... ;-) So one night I was bored and I decided to "Howl" to the Coyotes .... lol Over a 2 minute time period, I distinctly heard 4 Coyote Packs about a mile a part, join into the "Howling-Fest". So everynight after lighting the Burn-Barrel, I would call out to the 4 packs and they would Howl & Yap back to me and amongst themselves. Nothing like Country living,... City folks, just have no idea ;-) Haha that is funny! I found out the hard way from our burn pile; it literally re-caught fire like 2 weeks later! We think it was burning tree roots underground or something because it was all the way out and not smoking for weeks. Definitely have to keep an eye on those. Our farm is actually right in the city; but you'd never know it. Once you pull up the drive it's like you're in the middle of nowhere. There's tons of properties right around us with 25ish acres too so lots of woods and stuff. I've actually seen a coyote hunting one of my cats right behind our backyard fence so I know they're close-by; we hear them all the time. I love hooting at the owls too. Some lady also caught a mountain lion on a trail cam very close to us so that scares the crap out of me. I have to walk to the pond strapped just in case. ![]() I know we're going to grow grapes to make wine; that's like number one on the list after chickens lol. Did you know you can make 200 gals of wine a year per household without worrying about taxes? ![]() “It's hard not to feel happy when you make someone smile.” Roy T. Bennett _______ ~INFJ~ |

Coyotes used to lay around with my Dog in the yard, until I would drive home and they hear me drive up the white-rock drive-way, then My dog would pretend to be protecting the house and aggressively bark and chase the Coyotes away. The Coyotes would "Play along" and pretend to be scared off and run away. They did this daily, I guess they thought they had me fooled. Animals are so funny. |
