If CIA had anything to do with ousting Nixon, it was because he was NOT willing to leave Vietnam.
He was:
-prolonging peace talks in Paris
-seeing peace agreement in early 1973.only as temporary ceasefire,and was planning to resume bombing in the spring,which was blocked by Watergate
-made a commitment to South Vietnamese to intervene militarily,if the North reinvade,which would mean reintroduction of ground forces,because air force alone could not have stopped it(which btw lost 4000 planes and 5000 helicopters by then)

The ones behind his ousting saw Vietnam as military, financial and political disaster that was tearing country apart internally and its reputation abroad,and wanted a clean break.
They decided that the best way to win Cold war was by using economic war (Star wars and low oil prices that broke the back of the USSR in 80s),rebuilt finances by introduction of petrodollar,and military by full profesionalisation and reliance on hi-tech, where also USSR could not keep up.

The electoral college will not be able to make the decision either because the vote will be so even, so finely divided throughout the entire nation, that it will temporarily freeze the processes of democracy. The hands and feet, the very core of the operation, that is the election, will be locked up, frozen. He say's the people will be clamoring for whichever candidate they voted for and it will cause a great noise across the entire nation. It will be a touchy subject due to the world situation in general at the time. Thus, if one or the other candidate is put in office it would be at the risk of causing another civil war or at least a revolution. He says it will be a time of great social pressure, social unrest, and even more explosive than during the Vietnam era. It will be a while before they, work out a compromise and hold another election to come up with a candidate acceptable to all, one who can be installed in the White House without the threat of all the noise and confusion and such caused by a revolution or a civil war or what-have-you.

Take it for what it's worth, my grandmother was friends with Nixon before and during his presidency, and she always had a soft spot for him. And this is the woman who taught me in my early teens to trust no one, question everything, and be wary of anyone in authority. 30+ years later and I can safely say that I'm here on GLP because of what she ingrained in me at such a young age.

But she always felt that what went down with Nixon did not reflect her personal experience with the man, nor his values. She always thought there was more to the story than was being stated.
