While giant lakes are dried up, and the wobble of the earth keeps places in winter all year? They don't understand logic but they do understand money, so he made a good point. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 82770943 The assertion is that the Greenland Ice sheet, reported to be "1,380 miles (2,220 km) north-south, has a maximum width of 680 miles (1,094 km) near its northern margin, and has an average thickness of about 5,000 feet (1,500 metres)" Will melt or slide into the ocean, raising sea levels by the amount of water contained therein. [link to www.britannica.com (secure)] Earth's oceans cover 139 million sq miles. If you just multiply the ice sheet dimensions, you get close to a million cubic miles of ice. If you assume the ice is the density of water, (of course it isn't, but I'm lazy), you get a global ocean rise possible of 1/139 X 5000 ft = 36 feet. Density of ice is around .9, so .9 X 36 = 32 ft of ocean level increase. The ice sheet isn't a rectangle, so lets cut the number by about 40% to compensate. So you get around 19 feet of potential worst case ocean rise from the Greenland ice sheet total collapse. Will it happen? I have no idea. But I am pretty sure driving gasoline cars will not change it one way or the other. If the Sun gives off more heat, we warm up. If the Sun gives off less heat, we cool down. 50 ppm of CO2 in the air isn't going to change shit. There are offsetting things that buffer and stabilize Earth's ocean levels. If you emit a bunch of CO2, is simply absorbs into the oceans, and the plant life of the ocean converts it into plant matter. Maybe the ocean pH changes a tad. But that is buffered as well. Then they say that the ocean conveyor currents are slowing down. That will actually result in the poles getting colder, as less warm tropical water is convected to the poles. Bottom line is that nobody that I know of has actually modelled the effects much less shared them in any sort of a proof. And the simple observations that have been made showing the Earth warmed in synch with Mars etc says it was caused by changes in solar output. Our nasty car exhaust has not made it to Mars yet. :) Furthermore, Al Gore's book of fear and fiction predicted we would already have drowned coastlines by now. Not sure if even a measurable difference has occurred yet. Last Edited by JustmeTX on 01/21/2023 10:11 AM Justme |

There is no land there supporting ice, (except for Greenland). So it can all melt tomorrow and it will not change the ocean level even the slightest bit. Actually, as I said above, if it all melts, the Atlantic conveyor current will slow or even stop. Trapping the Earth's heat in the tropics and allowing more ice to form at the poles and onto Greensland's ice sheet. I am familiar with finite element analysis, which is what would be needed to predict what will happen with ice and ocean levels. If someone had actually put together a proper model of the system, they would be on TV getting knighted, and given Nobel prizes. They would be endlessly telling us how smart they are. I must conclude that it has not been modeled, and any predictions are purely conjecture. And there are as many people saying we are entering a new cooldown cycle as claim a warming cycle. They all know it’s a fraud and they have know for quite some time. But they just keep going on and on with their fantasies because they are living in an alternate reality. And also, their paychecks depend on it. |

But around the year 2000 all the warming trends paused and slightly reversed. By 2005 all the predictions the IPCC made had failed, even the low end warming scenarios. There will never ever be earth changes that even make 5% of this planet uninhabitable....just not how the universe works...no mass flooding, no asteroid, no sun flares, no second coming, no rapture, no warning etc. etc., God, not man is in total control, regardless of what all the climate buffoons or religious fanatics try to force down our throats..... |
