By "pulling the data", they mean "answers to questions".

Oversimplified, questions are different. Instead of asking "What is 10+2?" they ask, "How do I get 12?"

They send the question into the D-Wave quantum computer (which, they say is a chip linked to thousands of other chips in a multidimensional space, so they can utilize the power of "all" those computers at once).

The D-Wave responds to "How do I get to 12?" with:

4+8
3+9
2+10
1+11

It basically gives you the question to your answer.

Why is this important?

COMPUTER ENCRYPTION.

An encrypted string of data uses a "key" to encrypt. Without the "key", you cannot read the encrypted data.

So, the D-Wave computer can be sent an encrypted string, then be asked, "What's the key to this encryption?" and it spits it out in mere seconds.
