Thousands of Israelis gathered in Tel Aviv on Saturday to protest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s new right-wing coalition government and its plans to reduce the powers of the Supreme Court through judicial reform.

Protesters have criticized Justice Minister Yariv Levin, who unveiled the government’s long-promised overhaul of the judicial system earlier this month.

Critics accuse the government of declaring war on the legal system, saying the plan will upend Israel’s system of checks and balances and undermine its democratic institutions by giving absolute power to the new governing coalition.
