I made decent money growing up so for me it was always cash, but most of it was left at home. A $10.00 tucked into my wallet for emergencies. Did this impede my generation (X) from over spending? YOu could only spend what was in your pocket that day. Quoting: St Tidbits the Odd You have to go into the Bank. Most people did it once a week. Took out the money they needed to live until next week and stashed it, often inside their wallet. It was for emergencies... These days I carry a thousand in the hidden spot. But I just rely on my debt/ATM for everyday stuff. One of these days... A *REAL* rain is gonna come and wash all this scum off the streets. |

Now, you have to go a long way past the local Walmart which won't sell cigarettes, to a lace where you can use a chip in your hand to make the withdrawl conveniently from your bank account. A short walk has become a long walk, and your pocket change has become a bank transaction for a smoke after dark. I would rather go downstairs in any building, drop a few quarters, and pull a button. 230 here, but 0 there. |

User ID: 84582412 United States 01/31/2023 05:01 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We would keep a monthly budget and knew how much cash we would need until the next paycheck, and take our paychecks to deposit them in the bank and keep enough cash based on what we budgeted for. We would use the cash to fill up our gas tanks and keep the rest for small purchases. We always paid cash for restaurants and gas, and mostly everything. We wrote checks for the grocery store and bills, and any larger purchases. Every time we wrote a check we would have to balance the checkbook. If we needed more cash we would have to go to the bank during banking hours to make a withdrawal. I still keep a monthly budget, and the goal is to stick with it as far as possible. I notice young people don't keep a budget or know how to manage their money. They are always broke and never make it to their next paycheck, and have to borrow from me or others. I keep telling them to keep a budget but that goes in one ear and out the other. If you want to spend less, or save money the best policy is to avoid going anywhere as far as possible. When you leave the house you are probably going to end up spending money. I invest in lots of stay at home activities to keep us home more. Never go into a store just to look around or window shop. Never look at ads or commercials. When you go to a store have a list and stick to it. If you see something in the store you want that is not on the list, make yourself wait until the next time you go to the store and have it on the list. If you forgot about it, you didn't need it in the first place.
