You get to feel how your car reacts going sideways and find ways to correct it. Plus it is fun! Quoting: The Baffled Oaken Paw When in a spin, release brake, do not touch gas, turn into the spin. Counter intuitive, but how it's done. Lived in Anchorage 3 years. Everyone learns straightaway how to recover from a spin. Mid to late September can be very icy, before the actual snows set in. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80592722 LOL I thought Dallas drivers were the ultimate in crazy, until introduced to Houston drivers. Houston: Recent transplants and non-Texans must stay in right lanes; center lanes are for acclimated transplants and Texans who are sane & drive speed limit up to 10 MPH over; left lanes are for those going 30 MPH+ over and are completely insane. Mostly heavy and nonstop rain here the last 2-3 days; fortunately, we dodged a bullet as most of the ice is west of us. And true, most Texans don't know how to navigate on ice, me included. Learned a long time ago to STAY HOME during these weather events. |

Texas had a massive pile up a few winters ago, the weather was just on the edge of icing and every idiot 4 lanes wide was running 70(+) mph into fog. Semis included. I believe the pileup started on an icy over pass like this one. Big city Texas traffic is nuts. Fort Worth I-35 pile up This is why I prefer rust. It's a much SLOWER way to destroy a vehicle, and can be repaired for much less than the cost of a new vehicle. Auto Insurance companies should raise rates in areas where government refuses to accept responsibility for maintaining major highways in normal expected weather. Nothing shall be so certain as to permit confusion. |

If the bridge is curved, go lightly on the steering wheel, but NEVER hit the brakes or the gas, unless you are certain of a collision, then, say one Hail Mary, and Three Our Fathers. and if your going way to fast, put your head between your legs and kiss your arse goodbye! |

Better choice in Texas, is just stay home during this type of weather. Typically, when it ices here, all is clear in a day or two. We are expecting temps in the low 70s by the end of the weekend. I used to drive 70mph on pure ice when I was under 18. Fuck I loved to tail slip intentionally it was a bit pyschotic if you didn't know what you were doing but I dunno that's what people do up in the north when they want to have a little fun. |

Somehow Paying the Auto Repair TUITION BILL opened their minds into having an ability learn!! To learn that ice and snow can make a road slippery and they should slow down. Until then ... well they were hopeless students who had no desire to learn from the wisdom of others. |
