Breaking – Massive Train Derailment in East Palestine Ohio, Shelter in Place Issued

I am sure the Chief was informed early on as to what the various payloads were being carried on that train.

The delay is likely due to waiting for a manifest that showed exactly what type of payload was in each specific car, but more so the need to then identify the cars that were burning which were now scattered and burning so hot as to make it difficult to get close enough to read the car id through the burning smoke.

The reporter said there was a "chemical" smell, which indicates that at least one burning car was filled with other than some crude petroleum product.

Hey man, glad to hear everything is OK. I am from EP, too, but haven't lived there in 30 years. I spoke with my parents and they had the car packed. They also live on the west side of the city, towards New Waterford, so no immediate danger to them other than the smoke plumes. It looks like everything was blowing into PA. Stay safe!

Someone posted a Ring video ( tiktok dot com/t/ZTRGhFPfD ) of the eastbound NS train leaving New Waterford, OH, heading towards East Palestine, OH, and it captured one of the train car trucks or wheels in flames as it passed. So, your theory about an improperly set handbrake in the middle of the train is looking more and more likely. Hopefully, you see this post and have more information to share.

As of Sunday morning, my family called and said some of our older relatives were asked to evacuate due to the continued smoldering rail cars and a shift in the wind direction.

FYI…the evacuation zone around the derailment is STILL IN EFFECT. The sherif just posted a notice threatening arrest and charges for anyone who violates this. This was released literally minutes ago. In the sheriff’s notice, it also mentions “a high probability of toxic gas release and or explosion.”

Apparently they’re reading a massive temple spike in one of the chemical tanks. Fire/EMS units are being mobilized from all around again. Looks like they ARE expecting a huge explosion shortly.

City of East Palestine, Ohio posted about an hour ago on their FB page that “the catastrophic failure of the vinyl chlorine tanks is near imminent.”

OH National Guard activated for the area to assist evacuations.

Governor of Ohio also directed Ohio State Police, Ohio Emergency Management Agency, and the Ohio EPA to the scene.

Yes I’m here, it wouldn’t let me quote and post but yes these mixed freight trains like 32N are built track by track in the yard by conductors and sometimes us and the car inspectors miss them it’s impossible to be perfect . What’s unique is this train went all that way from Toledo before it malfunctioned so it’s possible the freezing air kept it cooled off for longer than it usually would.

The situation there seems to have declined dramatically since this morning. Make sure your family is well clear, and quickly.

This train originated out of Illinois so unless cars were added somewhere in between this could fall in Union Pacific or csx because they inspected the car at its originating terminal, don’t be surprised if one of those two gets dragged into this somehow.

I just called my parents and spoke with them for a few minutes. Thanks for all of the updates. They live about 2 miles west of the derailment, upwind. But, they have their bags, meds, dog food, some food in the car ready to go, if things worsen and the winds shift.

It seems that actionable, detailed, critical information isn't being presented even after the briefings are held.

Tell them to just proactively go…if/when that vinyl chloride tank explodes, they won’t want to be anywhere near that gas cloud. Sounds like it could go at any time. I pray they, and everyone else, stays safe.

Thanks, we decided to evacuate as we were just outside of the one mile zone and didn’t want to take any chances. Things could get bad, so I hope your parents are safe.
