Quoting: Uncle Gintel On Friday's episode of "The Five," Fox News hosts expressed their disdain for employees using sick days." "I don't think that you necessarily should have, like, the six sick days every year," one host said." [link to www.businessinsider.com (secure)] The Republicans would rule unchecked if they didn't constantly polish the pole of the worst in cheap ass business ideas. Never a break for the working man from them. You wouldn't need sick time for your VAIDS if you would have just done a bit of research about the vax! |

Not for the work you don't do. In a former business I intentionally had the days renamed 'wellness' days. They used to be called sick days. All it encouraged as people lying (*cough* *cough*... oh so sick!). Then another group of wanna be PIs... "My sister saw Sally at the Mall... I guess she got better in 2 hours, but not enough to come to work!'. The managers were as much of a problem as the hourly assembly workers. "What, that means they can just take the day off if they feel like it?". Yes - that is what it means. They don't have to justify it with excuses. Its *their* time. Managers would get all upset when January rolled around and people got fresh days. I had to remind them they have 3, so once they run out normal attendance rules applied. Eventually the rational people (in both roles) liked it. Those who craved drama didn't. That too had people in both roles. Managers who wanted to play judge and excuse people for their own reasons (from wannabe saviors to just plain manipulators). Some managers prided themselves and focused on the drama part... who they got to work. Of course... they didn't actually focus on their job. I changed all that. Each role responsible for their piece (including HR.. that previously got off scot-free from leaving positions over to high turnover rate). I fired a quarter of the hourly staff and half the managers over the course of the next year. In two years I completely transformed the culture, best results ever in ALL categories. I left for another company and I heard it all went to the dump. Six GMs in 5 years. Managers accountable only to the bottom line with no process responsibilities. Everyone working to frame their 'hero narrative' as excuses. How we 'can't measure their contribution', etc. The company is now a dumpster fire. |

It was a use it or lose it situation. Also we got the best Blue Cross Blue Shield plan that they had. EVERYTHING PAID. I think America has been going downhill ever since. |

Because shit happens like having your baby, but you're too callous to see beyond your ego. I only paid people to work... I bet you were hard pressed to find people to work for you One employee stayed with me for 18 years... I never forgive and I never forget I am a licensed firearm holder. Why would an employee not just go down the street to a place that provides benefits? It really all depends on their level of skill... They don't pay sick time. You have a bank of time off, it accumulates and if you have time in your bank and you call in sick you can use it. The last couple of years before I retired. We were hiring all these 20 somethings, one of the instructors was late twenty's, he recommended to the newcomers, use it when you can, did not encourage them to save any time and if you can get an ailment use fmla. Most were migraines. I was so surprised at the number of young people missing at least a day or two a week of fmla, which was without pay. I also know a lot of them started falling into financial trouble, derp. Now I know some business owners and the trouble they are running into now is, workers calling in sick with tested positive with cv. So they are taking 5 days off! I missed like 2 days in 6 years. I am very fortunate and healthy, plus hate, HATE to go to dr, dentist no, dr YES. AND if you are working from home, please! I knew one of the gals I worked with late to work and she worked from home. Good f'n grief. Last Edited by Blessed E v on 02/07/2023 11:52 AM “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge.” Proverbs 18:15 |

Why would an employee not just go down the street to a place that provides benefits? Well I owned an upholstery shop If they could find a better employer they were free to go But none of the shops pay sick time None that I know of anyway But they could quit at any time They weren't slaves that I held against their will not slaves, but day labourers I had no benefits either as the owner No health insurance no paid sick time |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 29706669 United States 02/07/2023 08:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Heck, I worked for the federal government for 27 years and I got to turn in my sick leave for years that were attached to the end of my career. So, I got to retire with a career of 30 full years. That's because I didn't abuse my sick leave. Yes, I did use it, but I didn't call in sick just because my pet snail died. Yep, worked twenty seven years, had three years added to it, and at 57 I got my full 30 year pension AND social security. How about them apples! People who abuse their sick leave need to understand that it is bankable work hours that they might get to use at the end of their career. But, it's the "right here, right now" mentality that is killing these young people. Too bad, they have to work so they can pay for my social security. Ha ha. |
