After my wife died, every fucking day is a living hell.

Mentally it's the same as being a young man. Physically it's a lot more painful.

Stuff stops working. Starts hurting. You stop feeling invincible.

You learn that the world does revolve around you, and without you in it, it ceases to exist to you.

Very true. Young men think they can handle anything. Old men know better.

I am an anomaly. 68 years old, never sick or injured beyond a broken toe my whole life. Smoke cigarettes and whacky tobaccy. Great physical shape. Not muscular, but very little fat.

Here's the problem. I live in a 100-unit retirement complex. Most residents are single ladies. Fat ones. Big, fat, ugly ones. With short old man haircuts. There are only about 5 men here that are still in one piece. We've all been molested on multiple occasions. It's bad. We men can't even play any of the scheduled games in the clubhouse. Either a horny old fat lady will molest you or a man-hater will harass you.

It's bad.

As for the pain.

Get in the gym until you can't, then do calisthenics.

That will help as you get older; I don't hurt as much.

And also swim and walk n shit.

Move, live.

Stillness, death.

Get up very early in the morning
Fall asleep early despite naps
Call her "the wife"
Primary vehicle is a pickup, size proportionate to your pension
Wear clothes from whatever period you were popular and young. Never upgrade styles, just buy old style clothes.
Urinate small amounts often
Snore or own a CPAP
Belong to a car club
Drink black coffee

When you get really, really old you stop caring all together what people think of you so you get to do and say pretty much anything you want. Goose that cute nurse and its just a funny thing from a crazy old man.
