9 years ago my beautiful home in Southern California had a $48 - $75 gas bill.

I live in the country, I have dual heat. HE propane furnace and a high efficiency wood furnace. wood is rated at 130,000 btu heat output. I am surrounded by trees, endless heat supply. Since both units use electricity, and not much of that, I still installed a 2nd wood burner. My home averages 75 deg,sometimes I need to open a window to cool it off.

You may have a gas leak or wrong billing , check your mater if you have water heater on gas with tank turn if off or set temp lower.

If you don’t need it for a gas stove, you just don’t hook up the gas at all. That’s what I’ve done in every apartment I’ve lived in, including when I lived in SoCal. If I needed heat, I had a small electric heater just by me.

Sucks you can’t get a wood stove

I pay my Amish neighbor $14 every two months to refill a 5 gallon tank of liquid propane. That takes care of all my cooking needs. My electricity bill runs around $110 in the winter, $25 in the summer. That takes xare of heating and lighting. I live semi off grid on a hobby farm in the Midwest.

been in SoCal the last three weeks.....hell of a lot warmer here than coastal Carolina....

Also in SoCal. 1800 sq. ft. Thermostat set at 65°F. January SoCalGas bill was $377.00. Nearly three times as expensive as December's bill. It sucks, but you must have zero insulation, a broken thermostat or a missing window pane to have a higher bill than me with only 700 sq. ft.

to end the cycle before it blows cold air
and
the mechanical thermostat
to cycle less often

70° at the thermostat in the hallway

gives me 72° in the kitchen and living room

if I didn't do that I'd be getting 300+ bills

I am in Palm Springs. My $35 dollar winter gas bill jumped to $130 dollars. Thermostat never over 68 and I just got a new HVAC system with a new blower!

I just got a notice that I will have a $40 credit on my bill for next month. Woopdie doo. I did not change my thermostat, so interested what this month will be. It should be here any day.

Echoing others, definitely check the meter. If it's accurate, buy and use a small space heater in the areas you are currently occupying. Don't leave them unattended.

According to SoCalGas, national natural gas prices peaked last month and have since come down, so this month's bill should be cheaper.

Instead of three times as expensive, it will probably be close to double, and I'm sure PedoJoe will try to take credit for "bringing down the cost of natural gas."

SoCal here - outside of LA city but inside LA county. Normally $150 - $200 a month max during winter months.

Just received our bill 2 days ago - $600!!! TRIPLE!

Not kidding. So disgusted. Thank God I'm in a place where I can handle the situation - but not for long......

We keep the thermostat at 72 degrees. 1500 sq ft house.
