Jimmy Carter is one of only three Presidents I have in my autograph collection, the others being Gerald Ford and Donald Trump.

And I wouldn't have those first two except I got them at great auction house prices: 15 years ago I paid a piddling $8.00 for Carter and $12.00 for Ford and neither one has increased much in auction value over the years. This despite the fact the Ford died in 2006 and normally when a celeb [especially a POTUS] dies their signature pricetag spikes in the auction marketplace.

Of course, both sell in the hundreds of bucks on Ebay -where people will stupidly pay nearly anything- but the true test of worth comes in an open auction with no minimum reserves, which is where I do my shopping.

In contrast, Trump's 8x10 has increased by over 500% what I paid for it three days before the 2016 election when everybody thought Hillary Clinton was a sure thing and nobody wanted Trump's autograph.

Meanwhile, Joe Biden's signed pieces struggle to break $100 in the auction marketplace... which is RARE for a sitting President.

There's a moral there someplace.

Well, the books written by retired agents of his former Secret Service Protection Detail suggest otherwise.

They state that Carter was extremely sensitive about his height, was very thin-skinned when it came to challenges by anyone and had a pretty short temper -and foul mouth- when anyone crossed him, including his Joint Chiefs of Staff.

He would literally pull rank on those Generals claiming superior military knowledge over their own, particularly when it came to nuclear subs where the former USN Lieutenant insisted he was an "expert" despite never having actually served on anything other than diesel-electric boats [the USS POMFRET and USS BARRACUDA respectively].

And, the agents revealed another interesting aspect of Carter's private personality: whenever he'd board AF1 for a trip, he'd always insist on making a show for the press cameras by personally getting his garment bags out of the trunk of his limo and carrying them onboard, waving and flashing that famous grin the whole time.

The trouble was, the agents said those bags were always empty and just props.

So you can draw you own conclusions about the public Jimmy Carter and the private one.

What I personally recall most about Jimmy Carter was that in 1979 3 EDS employees were snatched up in Tehran and held by Iran, and he didn't lift a finger to get them out.

And, it finally took Ross Perot's private security team [led by former US Army Colonel Arthur "Bull" Simons] to get the job done.... a clandestine operation that left Carter looking like a dithering fool for not rescuing them himself.

Let's also not forget that in the same year 52 US Embassy employees in Tehran were likewise held hostage -for up to 18 months- before Carter could broker a deal. The historical fact is that Carter wasn't internationally respected much more than Biden is today... and by all accounts, Carter was even an HONEST man!

My late Dad bought a couple cans of Billy beer (Jimmy's brother) They are still in a glass collection case at my mothers

'Zis timeline is weird.

My beloved uncle was born in 1966… he died in his 36th bday.

When he went into the hospital for the last time, he finally had adequate pain meds. FTR, he lived 1 year and 2 months after being told that with chemo, he would have 2-4 months. He made the right choice for himself, by using Rick Simpson Oil, and other natural supplements.
