They are called pit bulls because they were bred for underground dog fights where they’d fight another dog to the death in a pit and people would bet on the outcome. They were abused and trained to hate all living creatures except their trainer, and were rewarded and treated well only after they killed another dog. The reason their jaws and torsos are so powerful and the reason they’re so aggressive is because of selective breeding. Dogs with the ideal traits for pit fights were bred generation after generation until we got the unnatural monsters we see today. The others were discarded. Breeding pit bulls should definitely be outlawed imo.

I had a roommate in Phoenix who had an elderly chow/sharpei mix. That dog and I became really close but one day I startled it while it was asleep and it woke up and literally started to attack me. I did not panic and I did not show fear. I stood my ground and yelled the dogs name, stuck my arm in his face and let him get a good smell of my scent. He immediately calmed down, started waging his tail and licking me as if to say he was sorry.

Weak, fearful people get attacked by dogs. Strong, confident people who know dogs and know not to show fear, do NOT get attacked.

Never show fear to a dog.
Never turn your back on an aggressive dog.
Do NOT look a strange dog directly in the eyes.
Do NOT smile showing your teeth at strange dogs.
All 4 above will provoke a dog.

EXACTLY !!! I had a Staffordshire Bull Terrier(Mom dog AKC registered)/Pit mix for 15 years. Sweetest dog ever. She never showed any aggression towards any other animal or people. I still miss Sheba.
I have a Fox terrier who is a mean little thing. She is a rescue. I got her several years ago when my Sheba died. She has bitten my oldest daughter, and me. She is very food aggressive.Jewel is about 14 years old.
I have a Boxer/Pit mix that was my late husbands service dog. Princess is about 4 years old, and highly intelligent. She used to warn us when my late husband was going to go into a seizure, BEFORE it was evident he was going to have a seizure. She literally never left my husbands side until he passed away from cancer.
Even though Jewel is a bossy little thing, Princess looks after her. Jewel was diagnosed with kidney failure in November 2021. She shouldn't have lived this long, as when she was diagnosed, the Vet wanted to put her on dialysis. I put her on a special diet instead, and she is doing pretty good, considering. Princess watches Jewel like a hawk, letting me know if Jewel is having a bad episode, like getting an occasional seizure.

Once in a while you can get a bad dog of any breed. I had a sketchy Black Lab many years ago, and a Chow that bit my daughter for no reason. Both of them got new homes where there were only adults present. Both of them did well in a child free home where they were the only pet.

Is why I walk with variety of response options as there are those in my neighborhood who think that a leash law is the worst thing ever. One of my neighbors is a washed up former nfl player who has an affinity for the “battle” pits, they aren’t a breed for me, as noted above, my cat can be terrifying enough but my neighbor and I have an understanding if the dogs get out…

Man charged after his 3-year-old child attacked by pack of pit bulls


3-year-old was attacked by a pack of pit bulls in South Memphis, according to Memphis police.

Police say that at 4:56 p.m., officers responded to Barton Street, just south of East Essex Avenue, regarding a dog bite.

Kendale Taylor, the toddler’s father, is charged with child endangerment.

Memphis Animal Shelter gave Taylor a citation for failure to maintain dogs, dangerous vicious dogs, dogs at large, and rabies shots and tags.

Flint police are warning of four "vicious" pit bulls roaming the city linked to a pair of human attacks over the weekend.

Police say the pit bulls attacked someone Sunday in the 1000 block of East Foss Avenue. The female victim was hospitalized in good condition at an area hospital.

Another attack happened later Sunday near the intersection of East Ridgeway Avenue and North Street, which is less than a mile from the first scene. The second victim also was listed in good condition at an area hospital.

The pit bulls are described as all brown, brown with a white lower body, black with white legs and the fourth is unknown.

After over a week at the hospital, Marcus Kizaza is finally back home.

Kizaza was viciously attacked by two unrestrained pit bulls just feet away from his home on Feb. 16.

“I'm feeling better now, but I'm having a pain on my knee and my finger too,” Kizaza said.

Dogs are out of control in my town. I was pushing my 1 year old a few days a go when we encountered an offleash staffie that decided to have a go at us. The dog was full aggressively barking while it's owner is shouting over and over he's friendly he just gets excited.
Due to the amount of encounters I've had recently, I carry a hammer so I was ready to fuck it up and defend my little girl.

People always say "it's not the dogs fault it's the owner" hear that excuse so often now.

Get an American Bully, all of the beauty of a pit but all the mean bred out. Awesome looking dogs to me anyway, more impressive than a Pit.

I have only owned bulldogs my entire life, Pits, English, French and now American Bully. I love Pits and they can be very sweet dogs but they are so powerful and I have seen more than one go berzerk, I mean they were bred specifically to fight in a pit. Not to mention some/many of the owners want them to be aggressive. Stupid people should not own pits or dogs in general.
