CA law used to require adults to undergo thorough psychiatric evaluation for a long time before taking trans drugs.

There's a high risk of suicide once someone goes thru the process as a former coworker once told me, although I'm a very feminine gay man, I'll never fully be accepted as a woman no matter what I do. My body will never be exactly like yours and I'll have lifelong physicall issues. So sad.
