I don't qualify for s.s. because I didn't work enough. The good news is I worked Fire and have a "safety "retirement". If the "government" can send money to countries I've never heard of and pour billions into Ukraine,they can take care of S.S. There has never been a problem with the U.S. "budget". They never run out of money. I always here about the deficit but this is truly :"nothing ever happens". They just bailed out the failed banks in Kali and saved Newsom's ass. For starters, the largest homeowning demographic would default on all of their debt, causing the money supply to contract violently, while simultaneously tanking the housing market. The ones who didn't lose their homes would drain their retirement accounts, tanking stocks.

Then they would all reenter the workforce, and the ones who couldn't work would apply for disability and food stamps, stressing an already stressed system. And all this at a time when layoffs and unemployment would be at all time highs to begin with, due the economic catastrophe caused by them all losing their houses.

And do you think that people will continue to pay into social security upon realizing they'll never get it? Of course not. There would be riots over it, and the government would lose all that tax revenue and probably default on the debt.

And the people all this would hurt most are the working aged. The millennials and gen z. The boomers would all die soon and we would be left to inherit the mess.

You can't have it both ways. You elected officials that spent the money for their own enrichment.

From what I've seen of the excess death statistics, the boomer demographic's excess mortality is up only very slightly. From what I've seen, the largest increases in excess mortality have been in the middle demographics, the 30-50 crowd.

Maybe you should ask the politicians your generation elected about where that money went?

Social Security was taken out of our checks our whole working lives. It was NOT optional. Our money would have been better invested elsewhere.

Older people do NOT get as much back in Social Security as they pay. The problem is multi-faceted. 1. The govt raided the accounts and left IOUs in their place. 2. We pay millions of people disability, including little kids who should not even be receiving disability, out of the account, and those people didn't pay in much, if anything. 3. Medicare is the real financial drain as people on average get a whole lot more than they pay in, yet neither Republicans nor Democrats seem interested in taking on Big Pharma for the good of the American people.

Another thing that's wrong, but wouldn't be helpful in light of the facts you just presented, is that for instance: my husband died so I get his SS. But I'm not allowed to get mine, that I paid in as well. It's one or the other. IMO, that's just wrong.

Yep ! When my husband passed away, I got his Social Security, which was more than mine. I couldn't get mine and his together, even though I worked and contributed into the system also.

Both parties are corrupt to the core! We need less laws, less bureaucracy, honest representatives and an American president - not the demented sellout we have now.
