And saying that you've paid everything off is ridiculous. It’s like you are asking for something worth a thousand dollars after paying only a hundred dollars. This is socialism.  they just need to pull up their boot straps and get a job You are obviously horrible at math..4-5K a year invested into a good basket of mutual funds over 40 yrs would yield millions at the end. I could earn 5% on lets say 3 million and get 12.5K/mo..and when I die..my kids would get the 3 million so ACTUALLY ITS A RIP OFF |

Older people do NOT get as much back in Social Security as they pay. The problem is multi-faceted. 1. The govt raided the accounts and left IOUs in their place. 2. We pay millions of people disability, including little kids who should not even be receiving disability, out of the account, and those people didn't pay in much, if anything. 3. Medicare is the real financial drain as people on average get a whole lot more than they pay in, yet neither Republicans nor Democrats seem interested in taking on Big Pharma for the good of the American people. Good facts! Another thing that's wrong, but wouldn't be helpful in light of the facts you just presented, is that for instance: my husband died so I get his SS. But I'm not allowed to get mine, that I paid in as well. It's one or the other. IMO, that's just wrong. Yep ! When my husband passed away, I got his Social Security, which was more than mine. I couldn't get mine and his together, even though I worked and contributed into the system also. yes...... and it really sux because, he worked like 80 hour weeks, so he paid out every year. But while he was away working, I also was working full time, raising 4 kids and taking care of the house and bills. Yet, I cannot collect mine that I paid in..... The whole thing is definitely a scam and needs to be "reset" somehow........But the whole house of cards is coming down in any event anyway. Love is a state of Being. This was already confirmed by the supreme court in numerous cases 2) Its a ponzi scheme - the people who got the first payouts had paid nothing or little into the system. Current payment are made using money taken from others. Thier money was similarly stolen and distributed to others. 3) any surplus was loaded to the government - so not only do younger generations pay money in they will never get back - the also are taxed to pay back the loaned money with interest. 4) The system is already in collapse ( they don't even publish the disability number anymore because that fund is bankrupt) Even the Social Security Administration admits the system is done in 2036. ( The US Dollar itself will probably be done long before then - and your SS benefit -if you get any at all - won't buy a Mcy-D hamburger. ) "Their" money is gone - just as those who invested with Bernie lost their money. They aren't legally owed a dime. Anyone who thinks social security is a good idea is a moron and thief. |

At age 55, the last SS statement I got (about 5 months ago), showed that both my employers and myself (since the age of 14 when I started working) have contributed: Me - $219K My Employers - $219K So $438,000, plus I'm still working now and can't even qualify for SS full benefits for another 10 years (age 65). At age 65, based on today's numbers, I will collect $3,100 per month, or roughly $37,000 per year. I'd have to collect that amount for 13 years just to recoup what my employers and myself have put into the program, NOT INCLUDING ANY GROWTH OVER THE LAST 40 YEARS! It's a rip off. If they offered me all of my money (and my employers contributions) + a retroactive 2% per year interest, then I would cash out. |
