Melted plastic has become intertwined with rocks on the island, located 1,140 km (708 miles) from the southeastern state of Espirito Santo, which researchers say is evidence of humans’ growing influence over the earth’s geological cycles. “This is new and terrifying at the same time, because pollution has reached geology,” said Fernanda Avelar Santos, a geologist at the Federal University of Parana. [ link to www.cnn.com (secure)] Years ago, "scientists" funded by the plastic industry told us that plastic could not break down microscopically. It would be expressed inertly out of human digestive tracts, no harm, no foul. That was a lie, of course. Now micro particles of plastic are insinuated into the tissues of sea life, including fish that are consumed by humans. this is similar to the lie the chemical companies claimed about GMOs---i.e. round-up genes spliced into corn to make it resistant to insects. No worries---it would pass inertly through the system. Until it was found being assimilated into the stomach gut lining, and being expressed in cord blood to unborn babies from the mother. But---'Trust the Science,' right? Fuckers.
