Good list. Thank you. Have quite a bit of those but not all.

Why the tuna in oil instead of water?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83078080

One thing which came to me, is because you can strain the oil off and use it to heat or cook with if you make a wick of some description. The Tuna is then a bonus item?

Oil also adds fat and calories

Best is to move to rural areas. Farm/cattle farm land.

There will always be food though the locals, those who are known, will get priority over the newcomers.

Small towns/villages, everybody knows who is who.

It's a good idea to practice a few weeks of living without things, like during the Great Depression or WWII.

Most people won't know what they really need, until they don't have things.

Also figure out what's editable on your property.

Like on my 2 1/2 acres I have Grape Leaves, Minor's Lettuce, Rose Hips (for vitamin C), Dandelions, Pine Nuts, Acorns (that have to be soaked to remove the tallow), plus all the fruit and vegetables I grow.

I also live near a river and have tons of fishing gear, and can also hunt squirrels with my 22 rifles.

A Merck Manual can be a real lifesaver.

Speaking of this list ... can anyone recommend a great can opener that will last for years?

I've tried about half a dozen different kinds of manual can-openers and they all break after 2-3 months of moderate use.

A great very many of us work hard every day to help avoid collapse, but I would still like to put in a good word for coconut oil.

Though coconut oil is unfortunately not a source of omega-3 fat (which is required for a balanced fat intake and proper development/functioning), some coconut oils have a shelf life of 5 years and can be rotated in your pantry with daily use, as unlike most oils that go rancid under high heat, coconut oil is good for cooking with. You can also use it for skin/hair and it has anti-microbial anti-viral anti-parisitic anti-fungal anti-candida properties.
