One elevator with mechanical problems might make a loud noise with some vibrations associated with it

But those should not have enough energy to actually shake or sway the entire building structure to any sig ificant degree

I don't know, but if I ever go into another 100 story building, I will be wearing a jet pack, a base jumping parachute, a SCUBA tank, and I will be wearing a jacket made from old passports and be carrying an ice axe.

They said they were updating the elevator software, so I doubt anyone was in it at the time.

Third world tech is upon us. You have the Millennium Tower in SF that is about to lean itself into condemnation too dangerous for occupation and now you have this thing that I would not trust after I felt it drop 5 feet and saw things bounce around my desk. I dont like high rise human built structures. They are not meant for safe calm human living. Once you are at one of those high floors you are a prisoner to the elevator and all it takes is a big fire on the floors below you and you are screwed unless you have a parachute. Not for me I prefer being close to the ground where I will take my chances.
