And he inspired in turn countless others, of which I can mention Keith Richards and Eric Clapton. Most rock guitarists today use some techniques that are derived from Chuck Berry's playing. He was a pioneer. He did it first. |

Eddie Van Halen Those three were pioneers, and everyone these days are just moving the ball forward, but they are not reinventing the craft like those three did. I'd take EVH all day long... I will admit, this guy is really good. I'll have to give him some more listen time. First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win. ~ Mahatma Gandhi "Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—forever." ~ George Orwell "The exact level of tyranny that you're going to live under, is the level of tyranny you put up with." ~Thomas Jefferson "All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent. ~ Thomas Jefferson |

I prefer songwriters over shredders with amazing technical abilities myself but to each their own. While I'm here, a few of my favorites: David Gilmour - you can tell its him playing from a mile away. So much emotion in his playing and man can he bend a note. Eddie Van Halen - Sure his leads are great but i love his rhythm playing and his riffs. Unique sounding and timing. Duane Denison ( The Jesus Lizard - Tomahawk ) Another guy with unique timing and riffs. Tony Iommi - Master of the heavy metal riff. Terrance Hobbs ( Suffocation ) Death metal master And the classic picks - Jimi Hendrix, SRV, Jeff Beck, etc. Masters of their trade. Also, Dave Murray and Adrian Smith from Iron Maiden deserve mention! |

Perkins was playing that style on live radio going back to 1946 |
