JRR Tolkien authored the trilogy.

He didn't like the Arthurian legend works as they existed and felt that they were too French.

He wanted to take the elements of the Arthurian legends and respin them with other English myths and legends to give a new Anglo-Saxon saga.

Once that harmony has bee achieved they are all taken to the temple those beings are from, there they meet 'the Big Guy' for the first time.
They meet beings that are mortal and given in marriage so they have natural children. That is how unmarried immortals get to act as parents to an endless number of 'children'.

The way it ends is the ones who can kill the most are 'the most moral' and they carry on as if nothing happened. Sentient beings have empathy for all other at a level that is slightly higher than they have for their ownselves.

The time between the fall in 4,000BC and the flood was when immortal beings were the 'kings of the earth'. The power of 1 immortal is equal to a herd of 50M horses, and riders.

Then the children expand out into all the other worlds that are seen as 'stars' from this one.
