Anonymous Coward User ID: 79517454 United States 04/02/2023 08:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Burger chain McDonald’s is temporarily closing its U.S. offices this week as it prepares to inform corporate employees about its layoffs as part of a broader company restructuring, The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 85211554 In an internal email last week to U.S. employees and some international staff, McDonald’s asked them to work from home from Monday through Wednesday so it can deliver staffing decisions virtually, the report said. It is unclear how many employees will be laid off. “During the week of April 3, we will communicate key decisions related to roles and staffing levels across the organization,” the Chicago-based company said in the message viewed by the Journal. McDonald’s also asked employees to cancel all in-person meetings with vendors and other outside parties at its headquarters, the report added... [link to www.cnbc.com (secure)] I drive by several McD locations on the way to work and they always have lots of cars coiled around the buildings. I think all fast food (and non-fast food) have raised prices significantly. We don't eat out a lot, but the restaurant we usually go to was pretty empty the last few times. I saw a Burger King went out of business near my office and the word was that they couldn't get staffing. Maybe McD is too top heavy. Could be not so many people want to work for what they're paying...unless you are top management. Maybe they'll take the haircut off the top. It’s gotta come off the top because all fast food companies are having problems with retention at the ground floor so they can’t lower their pay. Their pay actually keeps rising. I managed a fast food joint, it’s an awful job. You’re spot on about people not wanting to work for the pay lower down the ladder, too. Sometimes I feel like it’s a coordinated effort to narrow the gap of savings by going to the grocery store instead of eating out. Would help these greedy corporations stay in business. The gap is shrinking a lot. Still some wiggle room but it’s getting very small. Seeing what corporations pay for their food inventory is disgusting, us regular consumers pay so much more when we are barley surviving. And to top it off, they keep redoing the recipes to make their inventory costs cheaper and cheaper. They’ll go through stages each year where they lower the quality of the meats they serve and people rarely notice. Subway is notorious for this and it’s one of the few places that the customers notice the changes. The worst part about this is that McDonald’s is laying off regular people who need their jobs and rate of pay to maintain and they’re getting shit on so McShit can keep share holders happy. All of these companies are ruining lives in the name of profits for what’s most likely rich people. But hey, give your two weeks notice to be fair and not get a bad reference! Meanwhile, they’ll fire you without cause and not care if you are homeless the following week. Things have to change but it won’t, it’ll only get worse until us regular folks have finally had enough. If only everyone would unite. None of these massive corporations would survive a month if everyone quit or forced demands to be met for fair wages and employment protections. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 85467625 McD's is stupid though, from a business standpoint. The burger market has a big giant hole in it for prime meat burgers. What better way to pivot the company and lets be real, if anyone has the cash on hand to start raising prime its McD's, they could shake the bad image and give people real food. If anyone at McD's wants my resume I'd be happy to send one, I estimate we can get it up and running within the next half. Dude…you are ceo material if you aren’t one already Go big and go prime. Only flaw I your proposal is timing. Mcd going from entrails to prime would be a 2-3 year transition from themeat supplier side. Huge impact on the meat industry |

Maybe the meatpackers will have to cut back, Coca Cola, the bun making company, paper napkin suppliers. These ancillary companies will be hurt by this announcement and they will have to cull some of their employees in order to meet their budgetary considerations. |

Decisions of employment would be made in thar time and the staff would be informed on Thursday what is happening. Interesting. He told me about it, he said it's not his fault that the company isn't getting orders. I mentioned that it's everywhere, and that we probably are in a recession if not worse. He seems to think it's only the company he works for. He doesn't want to hear that the company I work for is now sharing work. One day a week I basically have nothing to do already. |
