And also add morels and pheasant back mushrooms. The difference between false and authentic morels is authentic morels are all one continuous mushroom piece. Falsies will have an inner stem around the cap. The real ones the spore surface is direct from the stem. You can find them both around the same time and I find pheasant backs very often. Things are popping. Ground temp around 45°F for mo-mo's. Pheaant backs on wood near water or lowland. *Re-spring starve I think this is why so many fast during this time Last Edited by MichAnon.ael on 04/02/2023 07:12 PM |

User ID: 75844604 United States 04/02/2023 07:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Mushrooms are cool. We're pretty much in opposite ends of the country and that might have something to do with it. Things are just starting to get green and baby plants are showing. Mushrooms like anything else you gotta be careful about. There are some easier that are more noobie friendly like pheaant back and even morels if you understand it's main look alike. Others you can only tell by doing a spore print, or you really wanna do a spore print like for instance the deadly galerina verses the velvet foot or winter mushroom. There are differences but A complete novice tho .. it takes some time to learn and to some people a plant is a plant and a mushroom is a mushroom and that's as far as they go. Being detailed is pretty necessary on the tougher ones. Kinda funny how much I did recognize from your vid. Not everything but still pretty cool a few zones away. |

User ID: 82244259 United States 04/02/2023 08:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've been watching here. Not much up yet, but lots of promise. I've got a ton of mullein and plantain. Up North, the cool weather turns the broadleaf plantain pink. https://imgur.com/fLwegPc And the hazelnuts are feeling frisky https://imgur.com/8wKznIT But it will be awhile before ramps and dandelions, nettles and mushrooms. It is a good time to prune the elderberries and put the cuttings into the ground if you want them to root. One of the easiest plants to propagate. What use is a revolution that fails to address the fundamental problem: the existence of domination in all its forms, and the myth of redemptive violence that perpetuates it?" - Walter Wink |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 85297797 Canada 04/02/2023 08:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've read that if you want to test a plant to see if it's ok to eat, you should first take a tiny piee, and place it up by your gums. Keep it there for at least a half hour. If by the end of the time, there are no rashes, or signs of irritation, take a larger piece (still small) and place it under your tongue. Wait another half hour. Then, if that's fine, take a bite of whatever it is, wait another half hour. If you're still alive, now you can eat it. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 85297797 Yes..sometimes people take days and try ever increasing 'servings' to ensure safety. Another important thing to remember when wildcrafting is to not deplete the resource. Always leave some plants/seeds/etc to regrow the next year.
